You don’t need to be a gardener to enjoy the fabulous variety of gardens the north-east of England has to offer. From the spectacular water features in The Alnwick Garden, to the hidden private gardens  there is something here for everyone. There are many hidden gems and Belsay Quarry Gardens and the Gertude Jekyll flower garden in Lindisfarne, Howick‘s magnificent coastal collection with its connection to Earl Grey Tea and the Botanic Gardens in Durham are always a treat.   Some of our lesser-known gardens can be included for smaller groups and  may not generally open to the public. There are nursery gardens for the serious plant hunter, and gardens with great cakes too.

The Dilston Physic Garden close to Hexham has a collection of herbal and medicinal plants used for healing, and the tiny garden in Carlisle Park in Morpeth grows plants used by the medieval Herbalist, William Turner. We have strong connections with Capability Brown at Alnwick, Wallington and his birthplace, Kirkharle courtyard, where his original landscape designs have been recreated.

A day tour can take in two or three of our lovely gardens with a guided commentary with perhaps a chance to ‘meet the gardener’ if you have a special interest.
