Northumberland Coast and Castles

Following the stunning Northumberland coastal route past the small villages of Alnmouth, Amble and Warkworth, the Northumberland coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is amongst the finest landscapes in the country. The journey continues north to Bamburgh, home to the Grace Darling Museum which tells the story of one of the north’s greatest heroines and the great Bamburgh Castle once the site of the ancient capital of Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria. Further North is the walled town of Berwick

A real highlight is a visit to Lindisfarne the cradle of early Christianity to enjoy a guided tour of the stunning remains of the 12th century Lindisfarne Priory with its diaries of a earlier times on the site of the first monastery set up by St Aidan in AD635, or the magnificent Castle, perched high above the fishing port. We can only cross the causeway here when the tide allows!

On the return journey we can enjoy fish and chips in the fishing town of Seahouses or maybe sample a pair of famous Craster kippers.
